Learning to Drive- The new way

Becoming a good driver takes time and practice. There are various routes to this.

1. The old way

This is preferred by most schools as it is traditional and people expect to spend may months learning to drive. You would probably take 1 or 2 hour long lessons per week. Doing this will make for very slow progress as you forget each time a good proportion of what you did before. The action of driving is also a psychomotor skill which needs intensive practice in the early stages, in order to become programmed to perform. On an hour a week this can take a very long time. At some stage the traditional instructor may mention tests and eventually when you are ready they will apply for a test for you . You will need to keep paying for lessons to keep the skill level whilst you wait for your test date, adding to the overall expense.

2. The crash course

This is an extreme method where you might attempt to learn to drive over a very short period, say a week .

There is a lot to take in with driving and to be at test standard means to drive consistently at a very high standard without any help from an instructor. It is highly unlikely that this can be achieved over a week. You are likely to not be guaranteed one to one training with some schools.

You are not very likely to become a good driver doing this and you probably won’t pass the test.

3. Private training alone.

Illegal in many countries and quite understandably so. You need structured lessons with a professional instructor to stand any chance of being at the required standard. This method is still used by some people who usually find out that it is not safe or suitable with a bang!

4 .Flexible-intensive method

The way used by Cheshire Learners instructors.

With this you block book a course suited to your timetable and your needs . The whole course can take a couple of weeks to a couple of months. All your training is planned and usually a test is arranged , which can be changed if needed. If you have the option of private practice it is recommended at an appropriate time and under the guidance of the instructor. You make rapid progress because of there being minimal gaps between sessions, however you get time to think, rest and read about what you’ve done on the lessons.

With this approach longer session lengths are adopted so you get a much greater range of driving experience and are even more ready to take the test when the time arrives.
Cheshire Learners instructors use mock testing regularly and from a quite early stage so that you are fully ready for the test situation.

This method is the only way you can learn with Cheshire Learners as we have found by experience that it is the most effective and economical way to teach driving. You will become a safe and confident driver quite quickly whilst enjoying the experience. Hence the School motto -

FAST AND FUN !
